A Shaggy Dog Story

My New Year of 2018 started out with a powerful reminder from the Divine Universe that when you leave yourself open to messages and answers, they do come through.  Sometimes softly, sometimes loud and clear, and usually unexpected.

To back track a bit, we used to have a dog.  She was with us for 7 years.  Since my husband wasn’t, and still isn’t, a “dog person”, the fact that we had one was amazing!  She came into our family at the right time and was the right dog.

Now I find myself in the position to possibly have another dog.  I woke up on Tuesday January 2nd thinking about this possibility, and all the things that might not work, and why I wanted a dog etc.  I decided that if I’m supposed to have one, the right dog will come into my life with no effort, just like the many cats we have had over the years.

Imagine my surprise when that same afternoon there was a knock at the door and standing there were two of the guys working on the road near my house, and they were holding this shivering little dog wearing a Christmas sweater!!  My two thoughts at that exact moment were “NO WAY did the Universe answer that fast and obvious” and “your assignment, if you choose to accept it…”  They had found the dog out running around all of their big equipment in the construction area and thought it might have mine.

I took the dog, checked for a collar (there wasn’t one), made it warm and comfy,  and called YC Pet Heroes (they are a great group that help with lost & found pets and are on Face Book) to come and scan the dog for a chip.  There wasn’t one.  Since it wasn’t a problem for me to keep the dog for a bit, she was left with me and we got started trying to find the owner.

By Wednesday afternoon there had been no word from an owner and I was contemplating whether or not I wanted to keep this dog.  I had to return some mis-delivered mail to a house at the top of the  ul-de-sac across the street and I asked if they knew of anyone  that had a small dog like the one that had been found.  They didn’t, but suggested calling Homeward Bound.  I made that call as soon as I got home and explained about the found dog.  Within 15 minutes they had called back saying they had just been contacted by someone who had lost a dog that sounded like the one I was caring for.  It was the dog’s owner and she came over right away to pick up her dog.

This series of events could have played out a couple of different ways.  As it is, on one level it was a taste of what having a dog again would be like.  On another level it was that powerful reminder that the Universe does answer and provide. Maybe not always in the way or at the time that we want or expect it to, but keep an open mind and be flexible if the answer you get doesn’t exactly fit your expectations.

I would still like a dog. This wasn’t the right time nor do I think it was the right dog, but I believe I was shown there is one somewhere in my future.

Blessings and Happy New Year to you all.  Be on the look out for synchronicity in your life!
